Congressman’s Open Act Bill May Finally Kill SOPA

California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa is the chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and is coining himself the “Internet defender.” Recently, he spoke with Mashable.

Open Act Bill

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa

In 2011, Congress proposed SOPA or the Stop Online Piracy Act that prompted an Internet BLACKOUT in response to the bill’s potential copyright infringements for American web users.

As a former electronics company CEO, Rep. Darrell Issa fought alongside Google to kill SOPA and instead wrote Open Act (hosted by the Madison Project). Rep. Issa’s alternative plan for protecting intellectual property Open Act prevents copyright infringement without adversely affecting U.S. web users.

Copyright Infringement Legislation is Online for Comments

Open Act is: an alternative intellectual property bill, an alternative to SOPA.

The Public may now comment online to Issa about Open Act to provide feedback.

A draft of Open Act Bill is posted online, an innovative move for Congress thanks to Issa.

Without web browsing censorship as proposed by SOPA, Open Act will prevent copyright infringement as requested by Hollywood.

“The OPEN Act applies only to [people in other countries] that have been found to be violating U.S. copyright after a trial. Under [the OPEN Act], after that trial it would enable other means to be used but not the draconian means, like DNS blocking, that SOPA called for,” explained Rep. Issa to Mashable.

Issa believes credit card companies and online payment systems should assist in preventing copyright infringement issues preventing online piracy of work.

“If I hold a copyright in the U.S., I should have protections against internal piracy and external piracy. Our courts can already protect us against internal piracy.” – Rep. Darrell Issa

Online Privacy Legislation Access Challenges for Congress
Congress switched from an antiquated email system to Microsoft Outlook just last year after major security measurements were taken.

Issa says both Republicans and Democrats are actively involved with Open Act. Many also support initiatives that would modernize Congressional functions, especially to gain support of copyright infringement legislation.

To put it simply, Congress is in the business of protecting information and less inclined to provide free access to information, so it could be a long road for them to comprehend a solid copyright infringement prevention plan.

Nielsen Names Generation C as Digital Audience

Nielsen Names Generation C as Digital Audience

A new generation is born called Generation C short for the “connected” generation.

Assumptions may have business owners thinking this is a generation outside of the target audience traditional 25 to 54-years-old, but according to Nielsen and NM Incite’s U.S. Digital Consumer Report released in February, Generation C is the primary digital consumer audience.

Between the ages of 18 and 34, Generation C, formerly known as Generation Y, is connecting with brands and products in new and unique ways.

This spend-happy audience makes decisions on wants not necessarily needs, and frankly their needs are defined a lot looser than those of us planning for retirement soon.

Although Generation C may appear to have less buying power than Baby Boomers, they are now the primary target audience, because of their diverse media habits making them an impossible captive audience. Download your free copy of the U.S. Digital Consumer Report.

Anyone remember the movie critics saying rentals would be the death of the film industry? But movies are producing more in revenue than ever before.

Congress Postponed SOPA But Watch Closely
A postponement does not kill the act, and with Hollywood, Congress remains on the hunt to protect copyright materials answering to their big donors not us it seems.

Lamar Smith of SOPA”
“American intellectual property industries provide 19 million high-paying jobs and account for more than 60% of U.S. exports. The theft of America’s intellectual property costs the U.S. economy more than $100 billion annually…Congress cannot stand by and do nothing while American innovators and job creators are under attack.”
As published on Mashable

But Smith has no issue with an act that would slow down your browsing with its many tracking tools like the DNS (Domain Name System) they wanted to include blockages in.

What Would SOPA Do? Is It Really Necessary?

WWW stands for World Wide Web – Hollywood needs to remember that all of us, U.S. citizens and everyone abroad, have a right to browse when, how and where we want on the Internet, but SOPA threatens to restrict foreign site access among other freedoms all to protect copyrighted materials.

Our marketing company in Naples moved its website from Godaddy.com when the site supported SOPA and Hollywood’s activist to revive it include millionaire/billionaire producers, actors, directors all backed by the power of big movie studios.

Marketing Companies in Naples and Beyond
…must remain bonded together in the fight to protect our Internet browsing and advertising opportunities after all the Internet is supposed to be a freedom platform – world wide, right?

You can’t rule out of fear. Leaders must rule with facts and knowledge.

Our Revised Website Proposal

Why not also place mandatory notices on websites where U.S. companies have outsourced American jobs? That sounds like a better idea to this marketing company in Naples…but it doesn’t make it right.

The more people click Google+1 on your site, yes it will help Google identify that your website as a place of interest. But the +1 click primarily helps with results for the specific term(s) a person responds to with a +1 click.

A Google+1 click isn’t going to boost your website listing from a page 3 listing to #1 on page 1. But it does help Google analyze usefulness of its results…assuming everyone starts clicking +1.

Of course you know what they say about “assumption,” so let’s look at the true effects of Google+1.

SEO or search engine optimization is still required, according to a Google employee’s explanation concerning Google+1′s purpose on a blog.

Our Naples marketing firm provides SEO services to clients and targeting specific key terms remains important, although we do believe Google could potentially give more weight to +1 clicks for search engine results therefore taking SEO control out of website owners’ hands.

SEO Versus Google+1, What’s the difference?

According to Google, content is still king when it comes to how Google will recommend your site in search results, but the challenge is that Google admits that +1 clicks will matter and hold a partial score in how Google analyzes your site.

From Google’s FAQ Section for Google+1
“Content recommended by friends and acquaintances is often more relevant than content from strangers. For example, a movie review from an expert is useful, but a movie review from a friend who shares your tastes can be even better.”

“Because of this, +1′s from friends and contacts can be a useful signal to Google when determining the relevance of your page to a user’s query.”

This is just one of many signals Google may use to determine a page’s relevance and ranking, and we’re constantly tweaking and improving our algorithm to improve overall search quality. For +1′s, as with any new ranking signal, we are starting carefully and learning how those signals affect search quality.”

Google Admits a +1 Click Will Prompt Page Crawls
+1 is a public action and placing a +1 button on your web pages is smart, because it may prompt Google to more frequently crawl your page or site based on a lot of +1 action. Read up on Google+1′s affects on your traditional SEO.

As much as we’d love to write Marketing in Naples, Naples Marketing Firm, Marketing Naples and Naples Marketing 50 million times on our website, Google still looks for valuable, original information.

Stick to the SEO basics with content providing valid content and as Google+1 grows as a whole more people will begin clicking the +1 button on your pages.

The problem with Google+1 clicks is people can create false email accounts and click their own sites, so it’ll be interesting to see how Google alters its view of the importance of +1 clicks. Read more about +1.

It’s a Mobile Marketing Take Over

Endorse Us With Google+
Our Southwest Florida Marketing firm thanks you for promoting us.

Love Your Mobile and Confused about Mobile Marketing?

AdWeek, an online advertising advice blog, reported in October 2011 that Google is warning businesses – Get Mobile or you may get run over!

But My Business Doesn’t Need Mobile Marketing Right?

Clear your vision for business by opening up to mobile marketing, a strategic marketing powerhouse.

Mobile applications are the new Yellow Pages and our Naples marketing firm made sure we were listed on them. Are you?

How often do you search online with your cell phone?
If you answered more than once a month, you’re still part of the growing trend in mobile search volume. Whether in Southwest Florida, Indiana, Washington, New York or any location in the world, mobile applications and searches are taking over. Period.

Research firm Forrester, a leader in trend research, reported:

  • 2010 – only 13 percent of the U.S. population searched with mobile devices
  • 90 percent of mobile users search using Google
  • Projections by 2015 estimate 28 percent of the U.S. Population will use mobile searches

By adopting mobile marketing methods, businesses in fact increase their exposure to not only younger consumers but also boost marketing to the early Facebook adopters now entering their 30′s – the prime spending target audience.

Mobile Marketing is Growing – Cell Phones Are Now Strategic Marketing Devices

With an Android, I can use the Yellow Pages phone app (application) to search for a company, but I also rely on GoWalla, Foursquare and Yelp to find business locations, reviews.

Unlike Yellow Pages who puts their print listings on their mobile apps, on mobile applications you’re required to physically register a business and claim it; otherwise NO MOBILE USER CAN FIND YOU

Every check in promotes the business free to the customer’s Facebook and Twitter followers. The Google+ app also allows mobile users to check into Google Places locations.

Google links Yelp reviews to search engine results! Google further empowered mobile marketing when it announces websites not updated on extremely regularly would lose their foothold on SEO.

Our Strategic Marketing Mobile Suggestions

Our Naples marketing firm located in Southwest Florida markets primarily to European and American visitors as well as Florida residents for local clients. Regardless of your location, set your strategic marketing plan to follow these online and mobile marketing guidelines:

  1. Register your business for Foursquare, GoWalla and Yelp and link it to your website
  2. Once registered on the above sites, claim your business listing and run specials and post status updates to make your business “active” on mobile applications
  3. Make sure your site is mobile friendly (reduce use of Flash)
  4. Write a blog or create a tips sidebar on your website’s front page for online marketing strategy

Embrace mobile marketing and it will help drive leads. With so many choices, make it easy for consumers to find you!
