Market Share and Pricing Strategy Improve Business

What’s Your Market Share?

Pricing Strategy is What Every Business Lives or Dies By
Mistakes in pricing strategy can damage your company’s brand more than one might think.

With the economic tides constantly turning, pricing strategy and market share development continue to be a very important decision for marketers.

Premium Prices vs. Discount Prices
Whether big or small, choosing the right pricing strategy to develop higher profitability is critical when developing a client base.
naples marketing, marketing agency in naples, florida, realtor marketing
A higher pricing strategy can provide higher value for a client while enhancing profitability for the marketer. This will promote a longterm relationship between buyer and seller. Discounting products does not necessarily lead to improved sales and certainly doesn’t boost profitability, because it requires two sales to make what you could make with one sale with better pricing.

It’s natural for people to associate value with price not just the name brand. You know the old saying, “You get what you pay for.”

You do get what you pay for sometimes, take a look at this example. An RCA MP3 player compared to an iPod, or a quick drive-thru gas station car wash compared to a full service, inside-and-out car wash – there are differences. One is better quality and therefore costs more, because of the research and components involved with the product.

Higher Pricing or As We Say “Optimal Pricing” Allows:

  • Funding investments in research and development, quality, and continued innovation
  • Increased revenue to reinvest into marketing and advertising which boosts awareness and appreciation for the brand or product
  • Creates an internal culture that focuses on improving

Even in these financially tough times, consumers continue to pay huge premiums even for items offered for free. For example, consumers purchasing purchase bottled water pay on average of $1.25 per bottle.

The next time you get your water bill, give them a call and ask how many gallons of water you could fill at home for $1.25. Hint: it’s more than 600 gallons!

Obviously bottled water is convenient, but it shows consumers will pay a premium for exactly what they want.

Create a Fighting Brand in Response to Pricing Wars
Before pulling the plug and dropping your prices, think about what alternatives you may have first. Most consumer objections regarding price are essentially about value received.

This fairs the same with your company when assessing marginal cost vs. marginal benefit. A buyer’s objection reflects their concern that the price they are paying and what they are getting are “Not dancing to the same song”.

What the consumer wants and what the consumer needs are very different. In this case, communication from the seller needs to better explain how the product provides what the consumer wants.

Pop Quiz:
How or what could you think of that would make customers pay double what they usually pay for a product?

Maybe raising prices isn’t as relevant here but rather adding value while keeping prices the same while others are jumping ship with their prices. Think more about what you can add to your brand! You MUST think outside the box and establish your unique niche to be more valuable than others in a competitive market.

Stand your Ground and Invest in your Brand
The value that delivers goes far beyond price. If your pricing matches that of your competition, then that screams you are equal to your competition and have nothing better to offer.

If you neither differentiate or exemplify your niche, then mediocrity is inevitable.

You Won’t Make the Cut When Price Cutting
A big mistake can occur when it may seem small out of the gate. If a company has a product with a 40% markup margin and the price is reduced 20%, really all that happens is the margin is split in half. This means you have to sell twice as many widgets to make the same amount of money, but of course pricing and profitability have to be balanced and fair.

To maintain the market share or expand a company’s market share, keep the profit margin at least at 40%.

When business owners create a price cutting environment, it begins to attract a lower level consumer and employee. The mentality of associates focuses on cutting corners, and regardless of the consumer they all want personalized attention and solutions.

Pricing fundamentals include marketing, research, merchandising, innovation and customer service. Market share growth is just as important and all of these fundamentals play a key role in market share growth.

How to File a Trademark Successfully

File a Trademark Now!

Do You Want to Know How to File a Trademark?

Once you file it seems like a cattle call for companies to send mail claiming they can “help” with your Trademark issue. I just five minutes, you can read our blog and have your Trademark under way!

Intellectual property is very valuable thus the need to protect it. The prosperity of many U.S. and global companies depends more on their ownership rights than on their tangible assets.

What is a Trademark?

If you are a businessperson or someone who has created something conceptually unique, you will want to protect your creative product. It can be a logo, event name, company name or word and once protected no one can use that mark without permission.

How Do You Get a Trademark

how to file a trademark, united state patent and trademark office, marketing company in NaplesSubmit a file for a Trademark with The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

This process is the only way to ensure that a distinctive word, name, mark, motto, symbol, device, or emblem (image or appearance), or any combination thereof, will be protected exclusively for the owner’s use.

Red Alert to Falsely Affiliated USPTO Companies

RED FLAG – Staff at our marketing firm in Naples called the USPTO, and customer service stated the office never requests money through email or mail.

In 2011, DREAMFly Marketing, our marketing company in Naples, filed for a company name trademark. Soon after the filing, three companies sent letters in the mail appearing to be from the Trademark Office stating they could help our marketing company in Naples.

One of the letters appeared to be on USPTO letterhead asking for $900 to process the trademark request for their research. HOW MANY COMPANIES HAVE FALLEN FOR THIS TRADEMARK SPAM? The problem us none of these businesses have any affiliation with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

In fact, when our marketing company in Naples called to check on the Trademark we had to provide our confirmation and filing number before they would provide any information.

Steps to Filing a Trademark Safely

Remember, a trademark is different than a copyright. It is for a mark that identifies your company as mentioned above. Here are quick steps on how to file for a trademark – visit USPTO online.

STEP 1: Determine whether you need trademark, patent, or copyright protection.

STEP 2: Determine whether you should hire a trademark attorney. Ignore mail like we received claiming for just $900 to help you with your Trademark issue. Most likely there is no issue and that is SPAM.

STEP 3: Identify your mark format: a standard character mark, a stylized/design mark, or a sound mark.

STEP 4: Identify clearly the precise goods and/or services to which the mark will apply.

STEP 5: Search the USPTO database to determine whether anyone is already claiming trademark rights in a particular mark through a federal registration.

STEP 6: Identify the proper “basis” for filing a trademark application.

STEP 7: File the application online through the Trademark Electronic Application System.
REMINDERS: (1) The application fee is a processing fee that is not refunded, even if ultimately no registration certificate issues; that, is, not all applications result in registrations; and (2) All information you submit to the USPTO at any point in the application and/or registration process will become public record, including your name, phone number, e-mail address, and street address.

STEP 8: USPTO will review the application and within 90 days will assign the file to a case manager to research your claim.

STEPS 9-11: If the reviewing attorney rejects your application, you will then file a rebuttal, and finally if determined to be valid the USPTO will publish your Trademark, validating it.

File for YOUR Trademark now! Remember, ignore mail from companies claiming to help you resolve your “Trademark issue”. Unless USPTO notified you there is an issue that is just SPAM! Hire an attorney for any serious issues.

Once your claim is filed it will take up to six month to process, so be patient.

Growing Your Leadership Style

Endorse Us With Google+

Do You Have the Best Leadership Style?

business leadership skills, marketing strategyPeople love to work for you?
Or could your staff use some motivating?

It’s easy to blame staff or contractors for being less than productive rather than admitting perhaps our leadership skills are aching to be rejuvenated.

We discuss marketing strategy as the key tool for business growth. Marketing strategy includes developing the best, most motivating leadership style for your work environment.

The best leadership styles allow managers to motivate employees to amplify their level and quality of work.

Defining Your Leadership Style 101

“Leadership is less about your needs and more about the needs of people and organization you are leading.”
Reported online with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

WSJ Contributor Alan Murray wrote a style guide for leaders in a recent blog. Leadership styles define how you are remembered but more importantly a management style creates the work environment for all employees.

Visionary Leadership Style
Visionary leaders are the choice of any board when it is time for change. Visionary leaders generally convey the new direction of a company clearly and outline the steps the whole team will take in order to achieve the new direction successfully.

Coaching Leadership Style
Coaching leaders provide one-on-one coaching with staff and treat staff as if they are potential replacements for the leader making sure the employee’s goals are connected with the organization’s goals. This leadership style can backfire if the one-on-one coaching is perceived as micromanaging as opposed to intuitively helpful so be cautious here.
Walk the motivator versus totalitarian ruler line here.

Affiliative Leadership Style
According to WSJ, this style emphasizes team work, increases harmony and improves communication BUT it can also cultivate mediocrity.

While it improves a company stricken with trust issues, this type of leadership is often one that leads a company only temporarily and from our experience this is the type of leader called in as a henchman sometimes who then becomes the “communication” leader.

Democratic Leadership Style
Personal opinion – this can be dangerous. You can’t have the herd running over the Shepherd, but the Democratic Leadership Style can be useful because it builds on the staff’s knowledge and skills, and creates a group commitment to the resulting goals.

Experts warn this consensus-building approach can be disastrous during times crisis, because in urgent times of need quick decisions must be made which consensus building prevents. This is great a sub-style to have.

Pacesetting or Commanding Style?
Pacesetting marks a leader with high standards of performance who wants tasks completed faster, harder and better at all times. Pacesetting produces high volumes of work, but it can poison an environment against quality work.

A Commanding Leadership Style creates the classic military style leadership and is often the least effective. Commanding leaders rarely offer praise or encouragement but rather function in a tough environment so this leadership is the worst of them all unless of course you work in the military!

Who Do You Want Them to Remember?

I always think this is a safe way to function. If you want people to remember you as smart and helpful and strong, you probably aren’t choosing the Commanding Leadership Style but maybe the Democratic or the Visionary Leadership Styles instead.

Lead the way you want to be remembered, but always remember it is IMPOSSIBLE to please everyone plain and simple. Be positive, be helpful, coach and also be able to make the tough decisions every leader has to make even when you don’t want to – that is the best leadership style – one with a focus on motivating and protecting an organization.

Do You Know How to Close a Business Deal?

Endorse Us With Google+

Closing a Business Deal

You’re gaining business leads and meeting up with potential clients? Or perhaps you are bricks and mortar location business with new customers coming in?

Are you closing the deals or losing them? Closing a deal is different than gaining access to pitch to a new client or customer.

First you have to Open the Door
One of the best tools for opening up doors to at least gaining a meeting with someone is to connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and/or LinkedIn.

Not all social media connections will be local but you can make connections personal by emailing your newest online friend and asking them about their business without any sales talk. It leads to a conversation, then an invite to coffee…and the door opens.

If you are a bricks and mortar location, you should still try to genuinely connect with potentially new customers online, but you may be drawing more consumers into your physical location through advertising. Having a consumer walk into your store or business location…is still just an open door. There’s no promise they’ll buy and return.

Closing the Deal
Generally, when you meet with someone the first time, it is best to listen. Take cues from the person’s tone of voice, the types of problems or solutions being discussed and the person’s body language.

Tips for closing deals
Our Naples Marketing Firm knows first-hand how tough closing a deal can be.

Learn the Tricks to Closing Business Deals

Always remember, not every client is a fit for your business. Knowing this should give you a calmer and more open approach to new consumers.

  1. Conversations at first and second meetings are often robust.

Don’t let the conversation settle and if you run out of things to say – do NOT revert to what I call sales speak. Ask questions and listen.

  2. Give some free advice. If you help the person, they will immediately have value in your new connections.

Let’s be clear – I don’t give out an entire marketing strategy free over coffee – but I do provide 1-2 marketing tips.

When the person receives results, he or she may decide to hire my Naples Marketing Firm for future needs.

  3. Have your 30 second “this is what I do” speech ready in non-sales terms.

When the person asks what you can do for them – remember to focus on how your service positively impacts others – it’s about THEM not you!

“Be Brief, Brilliant and Be Gone” is advice the late Collier County, Florida Manager James Mudd – a fierce leader – gave me once.

  4. Explain how your service or product will benefit the person.

Why should someone care you are selling vitamins? Maybe they should choose your vitamins because they are derived from whole foods and have no fillers so they receive true nutrition value – tell them!

  5. If the person doesn’t express specific interest in what you have to offer, thank them for their time.

Then send a follow up hand written thank you note or email and attach information about the product or service you were talking about.

Here’s the key – Attach the document and ask them to share it with others they might think will benefit. You are selling without selling. It’s about the connection.

  6. Follow up but don’t be pushy. Enough said!
  7. Finally – deliver what you say you will – do not deceive and they’ll refer new clients and remain a loyal customer

They Bought – The Final Steps
The final steps to closing a deal often include a contract for those of us in marketing or online businesses. For those of you with store fronts, closing the deal is following the steps above but then getting the customer to purchase right on the spot and customer service is key!

Your business’s finances and profits are about you, but a company’s service or product is about the consumer. And with success you can plan for the future with Qrops.

Frame your business dealings, networking, blogs, advertising and social media to focus on consumers’ needs and you’ll improve closing the deals.

What tips do you have for closing deals – share with our readers! If you like what you have read, our Naples Marketing Firm invites you to receive our weekly email blog. This marketing company in Naples provides PR, website design, SEO, social media and marketing strategy services.
