Wondering if Google+1 Clicks Help Your Search Engine Ranking?

The more people click Google+1 on your site, yes it will help Google identify that your website as a place of interest. But the +1 click primarily helps with results for the specific term(s) a person responds to with a +1 click.

A Google+1 click isn’t going to boost your website listing from a page 3 listing to #1 on page 1. But it does help Google analyze usefulness of its results…assuming everyone starts clicking +1.

Of course you know what they say about “assumption,” so let’s look at the true effects of Google+1.

SEO or search engine optimization is still required, according to a Google employee’s explanation concerning Google+1′s purpose on a blog.

Our Naples marketing firm provides SEO services to clients and targeting specific key terms remains important, although we do believe Google could potentially give more weight to +1 clicks for search engine results therefore taking SEO control out of website owners’ hands.

SEO Versus Google+1, What’s the difference?

According to Google, content is still king when it comes to how Google will recommend your site in search results, but the challenge is that Google admits that +1 clicks will matter and hold a partial score in how Google analyzes your site.

From Google’s FAQ Section for Google+1
“Content recommended by friends and acquaintances is often more relevant than content from strangers. For example, a movie review from an expert is useful, but a movie review from a friend who shares your tastes can be even better.”

“Because of this, +1′s from friends and contacts can be a useful signal to Google when determining the relevance of your page to a user’s query.”

This is just one of many signals Google may use to determine a page’s relevance and ranking, and we’re constantly tweaking and improving our algorithm to improve overall search quality. For +1′s, as with any new ranking signal, we are starting carefully and learning how those signals affect search quality.”

Google Admits a +1 Click Will Prompt Page Crawls
+1 is a public action and placing a +1 button on your web pages is smart, because it may prompt Google to more frequently crawl your page or site based on a lot of +1 action. Read up on Google+1′s affects on your traditional SEO.

As much as we’d love to write Marketing in Naples, Naples Marketing Firm, Marketing Naples and Naples Marketing 50 million times on our website, Google still looks for valuable, original information.

Stick to the SEO basics with content providing valid content and as Google+1 grows as a whole more people will begin clicking the +1 button on your pages.

The problem with Google+1 clicks is people can create false email accounts and click their own sites, so it’ll be interesting to see how Google alters its view of the importance of +1 clicks. Read more about +1.

I think Google just keeps making things difficult. It’s become impossible as the small guy.

  • Marla Stanley

I think +1 is a nice way for us to affect our own SEO, but the problem is you know eventually just like external links you’ll be able to purchase +1 clicks…so Google is just making SEO false in my opinion.

    • Michael Straface

      I think you’re right Marla.

  • Jennifer Crawford

I hate to say it but +1 won’t go anywhere so we just have to be more innovative in how we connect with the web browsing public.

What I don’t understand is how it it that some websites use robots to inappropriately build SEO and Google doesn’t seem to catch a lot of it recently and then people like me with a good site struggle. They need to concentrate on providing real SEO options as opposed to just making life harder.

    • Camden Smith

Well we certainly created a conversation with this blog. Keep in mind +1 is only one way Google is analyzing your website. What you can do is make sure you have valid website content, and that you are targeting the key terms people are searching for in your specific industry.

So now it’s +1 and content and all the other things search engine specialists do.  I wonder what’s next?

  • Krista Trent

Just one more thing to worry about, but good to know!

This helped me understand the +1 a little better.   Thanks
